Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Youth Development, Sports and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan has agreed to sponsor five special screening halls for local film Mr Finance: Cinta Gadis Autisme at 10Star Cinemas Kubota, Tawau, on Nov 14.
The sponsorship agreement was reached during a meeting at the minister’s office here on Monday between Nizam, director-cum-scriptwriter Jade Morris, producer Gregory Giting, and assistant producer Fuad Larkins.
Produced by Nautica Production Sdn Bhd using self-funded resources without filmmaking grants, the feature highlights love, acceptance, and autism awareness through the journey of an autistic character named Dani.
Jade said the film, which premiered on Oct 8, continues to face challenges in drawing anticipated audience numbers, with some social media users mistakenly assuming the production was from Indonesia before realising it was made by local Sabahan talents.
Welcoming the ministerial sponsorship as a boost for the production amidst financial constraints and slow box-office response, she urged cinema-goers across Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia to support the local release while it remains in cinemas.
