Like the food chain, incumbent Fadhlina Sidek who is the minister for education has got her chance to mincemeat, crack the whip or serve for the match point as the ball is now in her court.
Just like every other minister waiting to have their presence felt, for a niche to carve their name in the annals of history she got the lottery. Like a brand new vacuum cleaner to sweep the Rakyat off their feet which is switched on to a blow mode rather than one for suction, her ministry has now begun oiling the machinery for war. She was handed this break by her colleague Hannah Yeoh who is the minister of youth and sports.
On Dec 16, 2022, a disturbing incident brought to light via social media should be burning in the heart of every Rakyat, and if it is not then it should be compulsory that every Malaysian take such hideous matters to heart and those involved to the task. The video clip of the physical abuse of a volleyball coach in two of his wards had sirens echoing all the way through the corridors of Putrajaya and into the ears of two different ministries. This unforgivable event took place during a girl’s Under-14 Youth Volleyball Championship in Johor in a match for the third placing between Melaka and Johor The Star
Read and examine some pathetic Quotes from people in position regarding the incident. The Star
Quote: Higher Education Ministry sports section senior principal assistant secretary Datuk Dr Pekan Ramli told the media.
- That the coach's actions were excessive.
- "This is something that should not have happened, especially at a school level sports event.
- "Physically punishing players in front of their peers will have an extremely negative impact on them. This is not our culture," he was quoted as saying.
This man is merely paraphrasing a section on what one should not do but is seen not to take a firm stand on the matter. A coach who has been trained and certified should know what he can or cannot do and that he could be prosecuted if he abused his wards under his wing. Datuk Dr Pekan Ramli has not even touched on the rights of the 14-year-old minor who was struck and what the penal code has to say about the coach’s actions.
Quote: Former youth and sports minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu also took note of the incident on Twitter.
- "No space in sport or life for this abusive behaviour. Education, awareness and effective supervision is important to ensure mutual respect between athletes, coaches and administrators," he said in his tweet.
- He also said that too many similar incidents had been reported and if not dealt with seriously, would continue to go on.
- Ahmad Faizal also urged Yeoh to continue working towards the creation of a Safe Sports Act for Malaysia.
Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who has clearly mentioned that he was aware of such acts failed to mention what steps he took to address this matter while holding the portfolio previously. From their quotes, the Rakyat can judge the mentality of the very people who are tasked with high responsibility jobs. How would they have reacted if it was their own flesh and blood that got wrapped on the face.

The ministry of transportation is already travelling in a positive direction and minister Anthony Loke is making inroads into our transport system. He is not only pushing papers in his air conditioned chambers but is also moving around disguised as an ordinary Rakyat to find and plug holes in the system so as to provide that very experience the Rakyat deserves in transportation.
Here is a great chance for Fadhlina Sidek to stop, change and give fresh blood to pave the way to provide a better educational experience for our children and rid of the ‘stand on the fence’ stereotype attitude by administrators that we always hear and see in our country. Can she take stern actions to protect our innocent enthusiastic children who attempt to glorify our country with their skills and ability that are entrusted to be honed by the people who have been paid to do so?
People like the coach abuse our children by forgetting that it is not their own egos that they should worry about but instead it is the inspirational transition which is the journey they should endeavor to take their wards through.
As usual, the Coach will get away with what he has done because we are a weak Nation in attitude but let this be a sounding board for the Rakyat to ensure that such things never be repeated again.
