MINISTER for Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri urged everyone to have the courage to speak out against sexual harassment to protect the dignity and safety of our community.
This statement comes in light of a viral video where an e-hailing driver asked a 15-year-old girl to take off her headscarf while she was using the service to get home.
The incident reportedly happened as the girl was entering the driver's car, although the exact location remains unknown.
Fortunately, the girl's family managed to apprehend the suspect and turned him over to the police.
“To all the teenagers out there, don’t stay silent. You have the right to act for your own safety and dignity. I am also dedicated to enhancing justice through the full enforcement of the Tribunal under the Sexual Harassment Act,” she said today.
She acknowledged that the victim's father had lodged a police report about the incident, highlighting the growing public awareness of sexual harassment, which is a serious issue that must be addressed.
“When sexual harassment occurs, the public can trust the police to respond fairly and swiftly,” she added. – April 30, 2025
