
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Education Exco Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif will seek an explanation from the Sabah Education Department (JPNS) on the viral issue about alleged unhygienic practices at SMK Tebobon.
The State Minister of Science, Technology and innovation said he pays serious attention to the food cleanliness as it involves health of students.
“I have seen and read the issue spread in social media and will call the Education Director to get the right information.
Dr Mohd Arifin said JPNS has to make sure canteen operators or the tender holder for the canteens that supplies the food comply with standard operating procedures.

It was referring to an image of a rat on the dining table, stories of cockroaches in noodles and spoiled rice being sold and improper food handling in social media.
One TikTok user said Health Ministry workers had inspected the canteen twice but found “nothing wrong”.
Consumers Front of Sabah Secretary General Hashima Hasbullah Yahya said:
“The school should not gamble with the safety of students. There was one recently hospitalised for one week for leptospirosis.
“The parents didn’t know how the child got it and now they suspect it must be from the school.”
“As of now, we heard the State Education Department will come for follow-up inspections,” she said.
