Minister wants no repeat of Pitas tragedy

Kota Kinabalu: The National Consumer Action Council (MTPN) Sabah branch is urged to assist the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) to monitor controlled goods sold by retailers, especially in the interior.

State Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk James Ratib said such cooperation is vital so that KPDN can take action against traders who mislead consumers.

He said he does not wish for an incident where two Pitas students at a boarding school lost their lives this year after drinking a mixture of soft drinks and spirit (thinner), to recur.

“I asked KPDN Sabah to monitor the sale of such controlled goods and other items that are dangerous to minors, especially in the interior.
