Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment (KePKAS) and Sabah Parks are urged to explain the recent centralisation of counters for water sports activities at Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, which tour operators claim was implemented without consulting them.
Rusdi Saelih, Deputy Chairman of the Jesselton Point Boat Owners and Tour Operators Association, said since the system took effect on May 1, operators have been charged for every water sports activity they conduct on the islands within the park.
According to Rusdi who represents around 30 tour companies, they only received notification of this on April 18, despite the letter being dated March 20.
He said two companies were directly appointed by Sabah Parks to run the centralised system, but no discussions were held with existing operators first.
