Ministry banks on Hots to bring learning up to date

Tenom: High-order thinking skills (Hots) is one of the initiatives of the Education Ministry to shape high intellectual skills among students, said Tenom MP Riduan Rubin.

Riduan said this includes the ability to analyse, apply, evaluate, and create using critical, creative, logical thinking or critical and creative thinking aligned with 21st-century learning.

Therefore, he said, to achieve a pedagogical approach suitable to support this aspiration, project-based Learning (PBL) must be applied.

“In my opinion, the transformation of teaching and learning methods (PdP) at this time is gratifying and interactive, successfully attracting students’ interest and commitment to learning activities.

Riduan said the programme’s organisation should be praised as it is a good initiative in encouraging and developing creativity and innovation among students and teachers.

“The programme’s goals and objectives suit the chosen theme, Smart Academic PBL.

“All planned activities are well-suited to the proposed timeframe,” he said.

At the same time, Riduan urged the public, especially parents, to continue to provide commitment and support for every program organised by the schools.

He said this is because every school program essentially has one goal - to improve students’ excellence so that they can become valuable individuals in the future.

He hoped that this program could be utilised to the fullest by all students, teachers, parents, and the local community to interact and collaborate.

He said the organisation of this carnival is also hoped to serve as a medium to instill and provide students with experiences in entrepreneurship and business.

Tenom District Education Officer Saibeh Abd Sani, SMK Entabuan Principal Azlan Dimon, and SMK Entabuan PTA Chairman Lasan Tandau were also present.
