The Ministry of National Unity (KPN) is working towards creating at least 116 Progressive Neighbourhood Watch Areas (KRT) to boost local economies nationwide starting in April. According to KPN Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, the Progressive KRT is a key part of the Empowering Neighbourhood Watch (RT) initiative, aimed at empowering communities to set an example for other KRTs in a systematic and phased approach.

"While there are 8,438 KRTs across the country, KPN will carefully select 116 Progressive KRTs from each district based on their economic potential. This initiative, focused on stimulating the economy, aligns with our goal of building a progressive society," he said during a press conference after the inauguration of the Machang District Unity Complex.

Aaron also revealed that KPN is exploring the possibility of constructing unity complexes in every state nationwide, with working papers on the matter currently being refined. He noted that the Machang District Unity Complex in Kelantan is the first of its kind in the country, while construction of a similar complex in Perlis is expected to begin this year.

"The construction of the Perlis community complex is currently in the tender process and is anticipated to be completed by mid-2027," he added.

The establishment of these Progressive KRTs aims to create hubs of economic activity within local communities. By selecting KRTs with high economic potential, the Ministry of National Unity hopes to drive growth and development at the grassroots level. These selected areas will serve as models for others to emulate, demonstrating effective community engagement and economic empowerment strategies.

The initiative aligns with the broader national agenda of fostering a progressive society. By empowering communities to take charge of their economic destinies, the government aims to create a more inclusive and resilient society. This grassroots approach recognizes the importance of local initiatives in driving national development.

In addition to the establishment of Progressive KRTs, the Ministry is also focusing on infrastructure development to support these efforts. The construction of unity complexes in every state will provide physical spaces for community activities and economic initiatives. These complexes will serve as focal points for community engagement and collaboration, further enhancing the impact of the Progressive KRTs.

The inauguration of the Machang District Unity Complex marks a significant milestone in this initiative. As the first of its kind in the country, it sets a precedent for future developments in other states. The upcoming construction of a similar complex in Perlis underscores the government's commitment to expanding these initiatives nationwide.

Overall, the Ministry's efforts to establish Progressive KRTs and unity complexes reflect a holistic approach to community development. By combining economic empowerment with infrastructure development, the government aims to create sustainable and vibrant communities across the country.
