Minister Anthony Loke has announced that the Ministry of Transport will be issuing Temporary Change Permits (LPS) to accommodate additional bus services in preparation for Aidilfitri festivities.

These supplemental services are in response to requests from bus transport operators, particularly for routes heading to the East Coast and northern states, which experience a surge in demand as individuals journey back to their hometowns for Aidilfitri celebrations.

“We are authorizing LPS for tour bus services, particularly focusing on routes to the east coast and the north, where there is anticipated heightened demand as people travel to reunite with their families for Aidilfitri. Prior to granting these permits, thorough background checks are conducted on the companies involved,” Minister Loke explained during a press briefing held after a community event at Taman Coral Heights Community Hall in Sikamat.

In addition to facilitating increased transportation options, Minister Loke also demonstrated his support for Ramadan programs by contributing RM2,000 to mosques and RM1,000 to surau in order to aid in their respective Ramadan initiatives.

Expressing concern over road safety during this busy travel period, Minister Loke urged community leaders, mosque committees, and surau committees to prioritize road safety awareness in their Ramadan programs. He highlighted the alarming statistic that an average of 16 to 18 fatalities occur in road accidents over a two-week period, as observed by the Ministry of Transport.

“It is paramount for all road users to prioritize safety on the roads, and community leaders, particularly those associated with mosques and surau, play a pivotal role in spreading awareness during religious programs held throughout Ramadan,” emphasized Minister Loke.

By extending Temporary Change Permits for additional bus services and emphasizing the importance of road safety awareness, the Ministry of Transport aims to ensure a safer and more convenient travel experience for individuals making their way home for Aidilfitri, while also promoting community engagement and collaboration in enhancing road safety initiatives during the festive season.
