Ministry to act against profiteering traders at Lima’23

KANGAR – The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has warned industry players not to take advantage of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2023 (Lima’23) by increasing prices excessively.

Its deputy minister Fuziah Salleh said the ministry’s Kedah branch would conduct price monitoring around the venue starting May 22, and errant traders would face action under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.

“I advise industry players such as vehicle rental, hotel and accommodation operators, and food sellers not to increase prices unreasonably and take advantage of the arrival of visitors to Langkawi island,” she told reporters after inaugurating a bread processing factory owned by HPA Industries Sdn Bhd here today.

Also present were Indera Kayangan assemblyman Gan Ay Ling, the ministry’s Perlis Director Norazah Jaapar, and HPA Industries owner Ismail Ahmad.

Lima’23 is set to return from May 23 to 27 after a four-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

About 45,000 visitors from all over the world are expected to attend the biennial event. – Bernama, May 10, 2023
