PENAMPANG: Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick will outline several new approaches, including giving more focus on entrepreneurship development in Sabah and Sarawak.
He said this was part of the effort to realise the mission of the Unity Government in line with the call made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to focus on the two states concerned.
“I would like to come up with some new approaches for the Ministry without reducing the current focus.
“I will also give additional focus on the Penampang and Kadamaian areas in the aspect of digital economy-based enterprises, agro-tourism and issues related to hawkers in tamu (weekly markets),” the Penampang Member of Parliament said in a statement, Friday.
Ewon said the focus could also help realise one of his manifestos in the 15th General Election to make Penampang an enterprise district based on the digital economy.
“In principle, the Ministry agreed to build a complex to house digital and information technology enterprises, including animation, software development and applications. We will identify suitable areas for the complex in Penampang,” he said.
Regarding agro-based tourism, Ewon said Kadamaian has many community-based tourism sectors suitable for agro-tourism development.
Commenting on his visit to the Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here on Thursday, he said the Ministry would work with the association to implement several initiatives, especially in developing the Penampang Entrepreneurship Development Plan.
During the visit, Ewon also listened to a presentation from KCCI, in addition to sharing his vision to develop Penampang in the field of digital entrepreneurship, agro-tourism and small enterprises in tamu.
“I hope KCCI will help my office to draft the Penampang Entrepreneurship Development Plan, and I will adopt this plan as a policy document to be included in the Ministry’s programmes later,” he said
