Minor earthquake recorded off Batu Pahat, tremors possibly felt in Johor

A WEAK earthquake measuring 3.1 in magnitude was recorded in waters off Batu Pahat at midday today, with slight tremors potentially felt in parts of Johor.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) said the quake occurred at 1.54pm, approximately 42 kilometres south of Batu Pahat.

The tremor originated at a depth of 10 kilometres, with its epicentre located at coordinates 1.4 degrees North and 102.9 degrees East.

“A weak earthquake was recorded at 1.54pm, and tremors may be felt in parts of Johor. METMalaysia will continue to monitor the situation,” the department said in a statement.

Authorities have urged residents who experienced the tremors to provide feedback by completing an online survey to assist in monitoring and assessment efforts.

This marks the fourth recorded earthquake in the area, following a similar incident on 14 March, when a 3.2 magnitude tremor struck the same waters. - April 4, 2026
