Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officers rescued a woman who was sleeping in her car, unaware that the vehicle had caught fire while parked near shop-lots in Miri, Sarawak.
The Miri District Police took to its Facebook page to share how officers discovered the woman during a routine patrol after noticing smoke billowing from the bonnet of her parked car.

The police stated, “The incident occurred while members of the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD) Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) unit were conducting a crime prevention patrol. They spotted a Proton Saga parked opposite the KE Frozen premises, with smoke emitting from the front and flames burning beneath the vehicle.”
“Further inspection revealed a woman sleeping in the driver’s seat. The officers immediately woke her and moved her to safety to prevent a tragedy.”
The officers successfully extinguished the fire using portable fire extinguishers before the fire department arrived at the scene.
A warning against unforeseen dangers
The Miri District Police went on to advise the public to always ensure that vehicles are in good condition. It cautioned against sleeping in vehicles with the engine still running, as this poses a significant risk of fire and endangers personal safety.
“The public is also advised to remain vigilant regarding vehicle safety to avoid any unwanted incidents,” the statement added.
