Terengganu MB Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar clarifies that an incomplete Jalur Gemilang flown at Dataran Batu Buruk was due to a technical error.

KUALA TERENGGANU: The installation of a Jalur Gemilang without the crescent and star emblem at Dataran Batu Buruk here was not intentional but resulted from a technical error, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said.

He described the incident, which went viral on social media, as an isolated case and urged all parties not to speculate on the incident.

“Nevertheless, we will conduct an investigation to ensure that this does not happen again, regardless of who installed the flag, including members of the public and others,” he said after officiating the state-level 2026 World Ranger Day celebration at Wisma Darul Iman here today.

A video showing a Jalur Gemilang without the crescent and star emblem being flown at Dataran Batu Buruk had previously gone viral on social media, prompting various reactions from netizens.

Meanwhile, Kuala Terengganu Mayor Lizan Che Mat, when contacted by Bernama, said the local authority had taken immediate action by removing the damaged flag and replacing it with a new one on the same day.

He said that the Jalur Gemilang was originally intact, but the section bearing the crescent and star emblem was believed to have become detached or torn off due to strong winds.

“After this, we will no longer sew the flags ourselves. We will buy ready-made flags that are complete and in good condition to prevent a recurrence,” he said.

Lizan said the Kuala Terengganu City Council (MBKT) viewed the incident seriously and would take the necessary measures to ensure that flags were in good condition when installed and complied with the prescribed specifications.
