Missing fisherman in Tuaran found safe

Tuaran: The fisherman who was reported missing last Wednesday after his boat capsized in sea waters near Karambunai Nexus Resort here, was found safe on Thursday.

Morris Dulin, 69, was found clinging to an oil container for more than 30 hours in the waters off Sepanggar, near here.

Earlier, three people including the victim from Kg Mengkabong, Tuaran, were reported to have gone out to sea to catch fish using a boat.

The incident happened at about 6 am last Wednesday where two of his friends, namely Modilis Morris, 41, and Masran Awangkie, 42, were found safe after they managed to save themselves.

While the victim who was found on Thursday, was previously feared missing when the weather turned bad causing their boat to sink due to strong waves.

The police, Marine Police Force (PPM), Air Operations Force (PGU), Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and civilian fishing boats jointly conducted a search and rescue (SAR) operation to look for the victim.

Tuaran District Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief Abdul Qawie Abdul Gapar said the victim was found by the MMEA floating while clinging to the oil container at the Sepanggar waters.

“The victim was found safe and brought back to the MMEA base to be handed over to the medical team.

“The exhausted victim also underwent further treatment,” he said when contacted here on Thursday.
