Missing fisherman’s body found in Tawau

TAWAU: A body found floating in the waters of Batu 5, here, Monday afternoon was confirmed to belong to a fisherman who was reported missing while fishing in the waters of Batu Payung on Sunday.

Tawau Maritime Zone Director, Maritime Captain Shahrizan Raman, said an operation dubbed “Ops Carilamat” was activated at 5.15pm on Sunday after a complaint was received regarding the discovery of a boat with no one on board, about 100 metres south of Batu Payung beach, at 3.35pm.

He said the seven-meter boat was believed to belong to the fisherman known as Husin, 30, from Kg Hidayat, Batu 4, who failed to return home.

“When the boat was found, there was food and a mobile phone in it, believed to belong to the victim who was suspected of falling into the sea,” he said.
