TAPAH: The status and progress of the search and rescue (SAR) operation for hiker Jaslinda Saludin, 49, who has been missing at Gunung Batu Putih near here since May 24, will be discussed in a meeting tomorrow.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the matter will be discussed at a meeting to be held at the Tapah district police headquarters.
“The meeting will also discuss follow-up actions after 10 days of SAR operation in the area,” he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, he said 13 Orang Asli from Pos Titom, Hulu Jelai, Pahang have volunteered to assist in the search operation at Gunung Rayu.
He said the Orang Asli volunteers are believed to be part of the non-governmental organisation (NGO) ‘Team Pelindung’ under the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan), which is active in carrying out activities in the surrounding forest.
“This group is believed to have begun voluntary search efforts in the area four days ago,” said Sabarodzi.
Previously, Jaslinda was reported to have begun the Trans Spencer Chapman hike at 2 am on May 23 with 13 other individuals and two Forestry Mountain Guides via the Pos Gedung-Gunung Bah Gading-Gunung Batu Putih-Kuala Woh route.
Jaslinda and another hiker, Mohd Hanafi Neikmad, 41, experienced health issues and stopped; however, the clerk at a private company was reported to have continued the journey to the peak and was last seen on May 24 at 7.30 am.
