Six hikers feared missing on Gunung Trans Gerah were in good condition when they last contacted their family members.
GERIK: Police said the six hikers, who are feared missing on Gunung Trans Gerah in Kelantan, were in good condition when they last contacted their family members on Tuesday (Sept 1), before continuing their journey towards Perak.
District police chief Supt Abdul Samad Othman said the group last contacted their family at 7.47 am that day.
“The group began their hike on Aug 29 from the Pos Dakoh area in Gua Musang, Kelantan, and were expected to make their way out via Pos Kemar, Perak on Sept 3.
“However, as of Sept 6 (yesterday), their family members had yet to hear from them and subsequently lodged a police report out of concern for their safety,” he said in a statement today.
He said following the report, the police, together with the relevant agencies, had coordinated a search and rescue (SAR) operation to locate the group along the trail on the Perak side.
It was reported earlier that the six individuals comprised Wan Ahmad Aslam Wan Zairudin, 39, Siti Zulaiha Norizan, 39, their children Diya Raisha, 13, and Ahmad Raef, 9, and two mountain guides, Shafiee Sidek, 49, and Hazman Mamat, 43.
