Missing Johor teacher found dead in her home, cause uncertain

A YEAR-long mystery surrounding the disappearance of a teacher who had not reported for duty since 24 September last year has been resolved with the discovery of her body at a residence in Bandar Selesa Jaya last Thursday.

Iskandar Puteri District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner M Kumarasan, said police were alerted to the case following a report lodged at the Nusa Bestari Police Station on the same day.

“The body was discovered after neighbours investigated the source of a foul smell in the area and subsequently made a police report at around 8pm,” he said in a statement on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Lo Kwan Fong, 39, who was believed to have died approximately a month ago based on preliminary investigations.

A post-mortem conducted by forensic specialists at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA), Johor Bahru, could not determine the exact cause of death due to the advanced stage of decomposition.

Further investigations revealed that Lo was unmarried and worked as a teacher at a school in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Johor Bahru.

The case has been classified as sudden death, with no criminal elements found that could be linked to the cause of death.

Police also confirmed that they are in the process of locating the deceased’s next of kin, who are believed to have migrated to Singapore. - June 16, 2025
