SEMPORNA: A man who was reported missing at sea after a collision between two boats in waters of Pulau Boheyan, here, Monday, is confirmed to be safe.
The head of the Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), Faisal Ahmad, said, the victim’s family made a police report and confirmed the victim was safe and sound in Sitangkai Island, Philippines.
“During the incident, the victim was rescued by a civilian boat,” he said, adding that the victim’s identity was not available.
Earlier, he said, the SAR was launched at 7.39am, and terminated at 5.10pm.
Faisal said a team of five members and officers together with a rescue boat were deployed to a location 36 kilometres away to carry out search and rescue (SAR) operations, after receiving an emergency call at 6.20am.
According to him, he was informed by the Marine Police Force (PPM) that a male victim was missing after a collision at that location.
“Our team arrived at the location at 7.38am and immediately performed SAR together with other agencies to track the victim,” he said.
The operation also involved the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM), the police and the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN).
