SINGAPORE, Aug 3 — A 20‑year‑old Singaporean woman who was reported missing after abruptly leaving home has told Cambodian authorities she travelled to Cambodia of her own accord and was not coerced into scam operations, according to a video released by police in Phnom Penh.
In the one‑minute recording, filmed at the Phnom Penh Municipal Police Headquarters, Aishah Siregar said she went to Cambodia to work as an English teacher and had chosen to leave Singapore because she felt stressed and wanted to “find my own path”. She emphasised that she had not been forced, scammed or involved in any criminal activity.
Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior told investigators she had travelled to the country due to personal family issues and had intentionally cut off contact after departing Singapore on July 28. Her family, unable to reach her and discovering deleted messaging accounts and a missing passport, lodged a police report and appealed publicly for help.
Her brother later confirmed she had returned safely to Singapore, apologising for the family’s earlier fears and explaining that unexplained financial transactions and her sudden disappearance led them to suspect she had been lured into a scam. He said the family would address her concerns privately and asked for understanding amid public speculation.
