THE female teacher who was found dead in a state of decomposition at her home in Bandar Selesa Jaya, Johor Bahru is believed to have been suffering from depression.
State Education and Information Committee Chairman Aznan Tamin said the late Lo Kwan Fong, 39, who lived alone, was an only child and lost her parents in 2010.
According to him, the last time the deceased contacted the school management was on September 26 last year to inform them of her absence, and the school's efforts to contact the teacher failed since November 10.
"On November 21 and December 19, 2024, the principal submitted a letter of explanation for her absence from duty throughout October and November 2024.
On March 12, the teacher's phone number could no longer be reached.
The school then used other methods to track her whereabouts.
"The department followed all protocols and standard procedures when the teacher did not return to work.
"Letters were issued, and checks were made with the Immigration Department, Road Transport Department, National Registration Department and Prisons Department," he said.
According to him, however, the teacher involved, who works at a school in Taman Ungku Tunku Aminah, here, was allegedly not at her residence because many letters were left on the windows and doors of the house.
"Neighbours claimed not to have seen the teacher return home," he said.
He said that since the discovery of her body until June 13, the body was still at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA).
"The school was informed that no next of kin had yet come forward to claim the body. The deceased is believed to have suffered from depression, but there are no hospital records confirming a diagnosis," he told Harian Metro when contacted today.
Yesterday, Iskandar Puteri District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner M Kumarasan said that the deceased's neighbor came forward to file a report at 8pm at the Nusa Bestari Police Station last Thursday.
"Initial investigations found that the victim is believed to have died about a month ago," he said. – June 17, 2025
