Mitch McConnell ‘meeting with his staff’ ahead of return to work, ally says

Political commentator Scott Jennings says that Senator Mitch McConnell is preparing to return to work, having met with staff and received briefings on various issues, despite recent health concerns.

McConnell was hospitalized on June 14, and emergency dispatch audio later surfaced indicating a call for an unconscious person at his address, with a dispatcher describing it as a cardiac arrest and CPR in progress.

Jennings, who claims to have spoken with McConnell, dismissed speculation about the senator's condition, asserting that McConnell is not dead or incapacitated and plans to finish his current term. “Now, whether that means go back to work soon or go back to work eventually, I don’t know,” Jennings said on July 9. “But I do know he was meeting with his staff today and getting some briefings on a few issues.”

A spokesperson for McConnell previously said that the senator is improving and actively collaborating with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while continuing his recovery in the hospital.

McConnell has a history of health issues, including a hospitalization in February for flu-like symptoms, a concussion and broken rib from a 2023 fall, and public freezing incidents, which an attending physician linked to concussion recovery.
