Mixue, the multinational fast-food chain restaurant specialising in ice cream and tea-based drinks, was recently crowned the world's largest fast-food chain after overtaking McDonald's in the number of outlets globally.
As reported by The Independent, there are more than 45,000 Mixue outlets worldwide as of September 2024, surpassing the over 41,800 outlets that McDonald's has globally.
Among the over 45,000 Mixue outlets, some 300+ are in Malaysia, with the number expected to increase even further as Mixue Malaysia is pushing for further expansion in our country.
Mixue outlet in Segambut goes viral for only hiring “Malay and Chinese with experience” in job ad

With that in mind, one of the Mixue outlets in Malaysia went viral recently for all the wrong reasons, as a job vacancy poster it put up at the store provoked the ire of Malaysians online.
Shared by @mohaneyyy on Instagram, the job vacancy poster was put up by the Mixue outlet in Taman Sri Sinar in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur, announcing that it's hiring service crew and supervisor positions.

While the job ad looks like any run-of-the-mill vacancy poster, with negotiable salary and standard benefits such as EPF, SOCSO, allowance, and performance bonus, the criteria set by the Mixue outlet raised the eyebrows of Malaysians online.
This is because it limits hiring to only “Malay and Chinese with experience”, causing many netizens to allege that the outlet is practising hiring discrimination.
Indeed, @mohaneyyy called out this fact in the caption of the viral Instagram post, sarcastically asking whether this is how the world's largest food and beverages chain operates.

He added,
"Mixue may have become the world’s biggest food and beverage chain, but its hiring practices seem to tell a different story!
"I came across this job posting at Mixue Sri Sinar, and it clearly states that the hiring criteria are ‘Malay and Chinese with experience'.
"So, Indians (and others) can be customers but aren’t considered worthy enough to be employees? Why are we being excluded from job opportunities like this? Everyone deserves an equal chance to work, regardless of their race.
“It’s 2025, shouldn’t we be moving towards inclusivity, not discrimination?”
As of the time of writing, Mixue Malaysia has not responded to the viral post.

Malaysians criticise the outlet for its questionable hiring practices
In the comments section of @mohaneyy's post, many Malaysians, especially Malaysian Indians took exception to the Mixue outlet's job hiring criteria and even called for a boycott against the eatery.
One commenter urged fellow Malaysian Indians to not let anything stop them and stressed that if doors aren't open for them, they should build their own by working hard and supporting each other.

Another commenter claimed that this is unfortunately something common in Malaysia, as there are allegedly many stores and franchises with similar practices.
Meanwhile, another netizen said that he never bought anything at Mixue and doesn't regret it.

Besides that, one commenter told Mixue that they can keep their cheap drinks and questionable hiring practices as he'll happily stick to something premium.
Several commenters said that they won't be patronising Mixue anymore due to this issue and will ask their friends and family to boycott the brand.
