THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said it has intensified the declogging of waterways in Malabon ahead of the rainy season.
“Through these initiatives, we aim to ensure that communities are prepared for the challenges of the rainy season,” MMDA Acting Chairman Don Artes said during a cleanup operation in Longos and Tonsuya villages on Thursday.
The activity was conducted under the agency’s Bayanihan sa Barangay program, which fosters coordination with city and village officials.
The program includes clearing operations, pavement marking, tree trimming, and fumigation. An MMDA mobile materials recovery facility was also deployed to distribute grocery items in exchange for collected garbage.
MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre III emphasized the importance of unity among residents.
“This starts with us, and when we unite, we can ensure that the garbage will not return and that the community will remain clean and safe,” Torre said.
Malabon Mayor Jeannie Sandoval thanked the MMDA, noting the initiative has strengthened the capacity of local villages to respond to flooding and other climate-related challenges.
During the operation, Artes, Torre, and Sandoval personally inspected Letre Creek, Pinagsabugan Creek, and Sukol Creek.
