MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday highlighted the transformation of a former sanitary landfill in Carmona, Cavite, into an ecotourism site and public green space, as it released a video showcasing the MMDA Nature Park.
Located in Lantic village, the MMDA Nature Park was developed on the site of a former dumpsite following the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to rehabilitate the area as part of broader urban renewal efforts, according to the agency.
The park is open to the public for activities such as exercise, picnics and leisure while offering a greener environment outside Metro Manila.
The facility also houses a KADIWA ng Bayan Store under the KADIWA ng Pangulo program, which aims to provide affordable agricultural products to consumers.
Also located inside the park are a bamboo pavilion and a seedling nursery capable of propagating bamboo, which the MMDA said supported its environmental conservation initiatives and the use of bamboo as a natural flood mitigation measure.
The agency has likewise established a Disaster Preparedness Training Center within the property to serve as a venue for disaster preparedness, emergency response and rescue training programs.
