The MMEA will get RM1.088 billion for 16 development projects in 2027 under RMK13 Rolling Plan 2 to boost enforcement and maritime security capabilities.
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) will strengthen its enforcement capabilities and maritime security through an allocation of RM1.088 billion for 16 development projects in 2027.
In a statement today, the MMEA said the allocation, under Rolling Plan 2 of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), would cover infrastructure development, asset modernisation, operational systems and equipment, as well as vessel and boat maintenance and repairs.
The agency said its asset modernisation programme was progressing positively, with the construction of two Maritime Patrol Mission Ships (MPMS) ahead of schedule.
“Construction progress for MPMS 1 has reached 85 per cent, while MPMS 2 stands at 34.05 per cent, with both ahead of their respective schedules.
“MPMS 1 is expected to arrive in Malaysia in early 2027 and is scheduled to participate in the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) 2027,” the statement said.
According to MMEA, its first AW189 helicopter, received on Aug 13, was part of an acquisition of four helicopters of the same model.
The helicopters are intended to enhance the MMEA’s capabilities in enforcement, surveillance, search and rescue (SAR), medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) and special operations.
Meanwhile, the agency said the presence of the vessel KM Bendahara was expected to strengthen its operational capabilities, particularly in the waters off Sabah and the South China Sea.
In a separate development, the MMEA announced that its Bombardier CL-415MP amphibious aircraft had reached a significant milestone, recording 10,000 flight hours since entering service on Jan 23, 2009.
The achievement by the aircraft, bearing registration number M71-01 (MSN 2068), was formally recognised by De Havilland and highlighted during the Ministry of Home Affairs’ monthly assembly today.
The agency said the aircraft, operated by the Amphibious Squadron based at the Subang Maritime Air Station, supports various missions, including maritime surveillance, SAR operations, aerial firefighting and humanitarian assistance.
The aircraft has also participated in several major operations, including Operasi Daulat in Lahad Datu in 2013, the search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 and the tanker Orkim Harmony.
In addition, it was deployed for firefighting and humanitarian relief missions in South Sumatra, Indonesia, in 2015.
