MMEA detains tanker illegally transporting 170k litres of diesel in Sepanggar Bay waters

Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency detained a tanker allegedly transporting 170,000 litres of diesel illegally in Sepanggar Bay waters, off here, yesterday.

Four crew members aged between 24 and 72 were detained including the skipper, according to the agency's press release.

The agency believed the diesel was undeclared and had no proper documentation.

Other suspected offences included operation of the ship by an incomplete crew as per the ship's safe manning register, crew not fulfilling the required competency requirements and inadequate safety equipment.
