MMEA officer killed after boat hits coastal wall during suspected migrant chase in Perlis

A MALAYSIAN Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) officer died and three others were injured when their boat struck a coastal wall during a pursuit of a vessel suspected of carrying nine undocumented Myanmar nationals in Sungai Padang, Perlis, early today.

The incident occurred at about 12.30am, with the deceased, Maritime Senior Rating (Technical) Mohd Roshaimi Mohd Ridzuan, 41, reportedly thrown from the boat on impact.

Mohd Roshaimi, who served with the Intelligence Unit at the MMEA Kedah and Perlis headquarters, was discovered missing when his colleagues realised one team member was unaccounted for.

His body was found about an hour later after a search operation was launched.

Kangar district police chief ACP Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop confirmed that police had received a report on the incident when contacted today.

Mohd Roshaimi’s family gathered at the forensic department of Hospital Tuanku Fauziah in Kangar to await the completion of the post-mortem and funeral arrangements.

His body is expected to be taken to his hometown in Kuala Nerang, Kedah, after the post-mortem. - October 27, 2026
