SANDAKAN: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) seized a cargo boat carrying an estimated four tonnes of crude palm oil (CPO) suspected of violating transfer regulations in Sandakan waters early yesterday.
Sandakan Maritime Zone director Kepten Maritim Muhamad Suhairy Hussain said the seizure was executed during joint enforcement operations following public information regarding suspicious activities near a barge.
Personnel also seized petrol, a pump engine, and two 50-horsepower outboard engines along with the vessel, bringing the total estimated value of the confiscated items to RM63,792.
The vessel is suspected of committing an offence under the Malaysian Palm Oil Board Act 1998 for failing to display the mandatory domestic movement declaration issued by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).
Muhamad Suhairy added that the boat is also suspected of breaching the Sabah Ports and Harbours Enactment 2002 after failing to produce a valid boat licence.
