Model Siew Pui Yi has taken legal action against her former business partner, accusing him of cheating her out of nearly RM4.3 million. Known as "Mentos," the 29-year-old director of her company was supposed to settle tax arrears with the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) last year, but allegedly disappeared without paying the dues.

Ms. Pui Yi discovered that the man had also been misusing funds from her company, PY Empire Sdn Bhd, since June 2022. Speaking at a press conference, she mentioned that they had been introduced in 2019 through a mutual friend, and he initially seemed trustworthy. She had entrusted him with managing human resources and investing the company's funds.

"I trusted him and gave him nearly RM4.3 million to settle the income tax arrears as instructed. But he failed to do so, causing me significant financial loss," Ms. Pui Yi explained.

Her lawyer, K Mahendran, stated that a police report was filed last October and Siew had given statements to the police multiple times. Despite this, there has been no prosecution or update on the case.

To reclaim the RM4.3 million and other damages, Ms. Pui Yi filed a civil suit at the High Court.

The legal proceedings aim to hold the former business partner accountable for the alleged fraudulent activities and seek justice for the losses Ms. Pui Yi has faced. Her lawyer emphasized the need for swift action to resolve the matter, as the outstanding sum has impacted Ms. Pui Yi's business and financial situation.

Mahendran expressed confidence in the strength of their case, stating that they have gathered substantial evidence to support the claims of fraud and misappropriation. The civil suit includes not only the demand for the RM4.3 million but also requests for additional costs and damages that the court may deem appropriate.

The case highlights the importance of due diligence and careful selection of business partners. Ms. Pui Yi's experience serves as a cautionary tale for others in the industry and beyond, stressing the necessity of trusting instincts and verifying credentials when entering into business arrangements.

The outcome of this lawsuit could set a precedent for similar cases and potentially deter others from engaging in fraudulent activities. Ms. Pui Yi hopes that her legal battle will encourage others to come forward with their own experiences of financial exploitation, contributing to a safer business environment for all.
