
A MODERATE aftershock has been reported in the Tanimbar Islands region of Indonesia, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia). The tremor occurred at 10.15 am today, local time, and was felt across parts of the region.
MetMalaysia detailed that the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.2 and was centred at coordinates 6.4 degrees south latitude and 131.5 degrees east longitude.
The tremor struck at a depth of 78 kilometres and was located approximately 474 kilometres southeast of Ambon, Indonesia.
Authorities confirmed that there is no tsunami threat to Malaysian waters as a result of this seismic event.
MetMalaysia advised the public to follow official channels for updates, including their social media platforms and the MyGempa portal at mygempa.met.gov.my.
This latest tremor follows a previous moderate earthquake in the same region on 7 February, which occurred at 5.20am. - February 18, 2026
