KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale was detected in the northern Maluku Sea, Indonesia, at 6.21 pm today.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said in a statement today that the earthquake occurred 161 kilometres (km) south of Talaud Island, Indonesia, at a depth of 80km.
However, it posed no tsunami threat to Malaysia. -Bernama
