
A 5.9-magnitude quake hit Northern Sumatra, Indonesia, with no tsunami threat to Malaysia confirmed by authorities
KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 struck Northern Sumatra, Indonesia, early today.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the quake occurred at 4.06 am at a depth of 18 kilometres.
It was located 67 km west of Nias, Indonesia.
MetMalaysia confirmed there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia following the seismic event.
