Moderate quake hits Mindanao, no tsunami threat to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR – A moderate earthquake, measuring 5.1 in magnitude, struck Mindanao, the Philippines, at 11.34am today.

In a Facebook post, METMalaysia reported that the epicentre of the earthquake was located at 7.5° north and 126.2° east, with a depth of 63km.

The earthquake struck approximately 60-km east of Panabo, the Philippines, it added.

METMalaysia also assured the public that there was no tsunami threat to Malaysia.

In December last year,a 7.6-magnitude quake struck off Mindanao, briefly triggering a tsunami warning. At least three people died. – April 11, 2024
