Moderate quake jolts North Sumatera

KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake, measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale, struck North Sumatera, Indonesia at 8.42 pm today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said in a statement that the quake occurred 69 kilometres (km) west of Banda Acheh, Indonesia, at a depth of 80 km.

The quake, however, does not pose any tsunami threat to Malaysia.
