A hi-tech Digital Library and Information Centre was launched at Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology (KCET). The modern library set up is an initiative aiming to provide students and faculty with seamless access to high-quality academic resources and foster a culture of research and innovation, said authorities.

The programme named as “Gyan Srot” is developed as a modern digital solution equipped with advanced infrastructure and a vast repository of academic resources. The key highlight of the library is the implementation of the KOHA Integrated Library System, a globally recognised open-source, web-based platform that facilitates efficient cataloguing, circulation and user management.

Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) secretary and Khalsa University Pro-Chancellor Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina said the initiative marks one of the first implementations of the KOHA system in Punjab at such an advanced level, setting a benchmark for other institutions in the region. Dr Manju Bala said the new centre houses more than 18,000 books and provides access to over 1,500 e-books sourced from reputed platforms such as IEEE, AICTE and NDLI, along with religious literature, national and international journals and valuable faculty research work.

“The system has been upgraded to its latest version and offers features such as customizable search, online circulation, barcode printing, report generation and user self-registration through OPAC,” said Dr Bala adding that KCET has become the first college in the state with such an advanced level of library system.
