TOP Department of Transportation (DOTr) officials have reopened the Monumento (Caloocan) Busway Station, now an expanded and modernized facility.
DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez said on Wednesday that Senior Undersecretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Mark Steven Pastor and acting Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board Chairman Greg Pua Jr. joined him when he rode public transport during early Tuesday night’s rush hour to the newly reopened busway station.
After inspecting the facility, which he said aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to make EDSA Busway stations modern and accessible to ease and improve commuters’ daily journeys, the Monumento busway station was reopened to the commuting public.
“This March 2026, the president himself inaugurated our Kamuning Busway station, where he also instructed the DOTr, together with our road infrastructure sector, to build more busway stations using the same template as the Kamuning Busway station. They should be modern, accessible and pleasant busway stations,” Lopez said.
The DOTr chief said the 230-meter Monumento station is the longest among the 24 stations of the EDSA Busway.
It is noticeably brighter now with better-organized waiting sheds, railings, tactile paving, wayfinding signs, and a new LED (light-emitting diode) information station guide and fare matrix, according to the transportation agency.
Lopez also thanked the Department of Budget and Management for the expected release of P88 million for the repair of facilities and to improve security at various EDSA Busway stations.
“That amount, the P88 million, is a huge sum for our maintenance, security and repair of our elevators,” he added.
Lopez assured the public that the DOTr will address commuters’ needs. He ordered the installation of portable toilets at busway stations, citing the need to improve travelers’ comfort.
“We will install portable toilets at our various busway stations for the elderly, especially persons with disabilities, and for all users of our busway stations, so they have restrooms,” he said.
Meanwhile, the DOTr said construction of three new busway stations — PITX, Cubao, and Magallanes — is set for completion next year, while the rehabilitation of the Guadalupe station is expected to be finished next month.
