INDIAN Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his virtual address at the 22nd ASEAN-India Summit 2025, reaffirmed India’s commitment to ASEAN centrality and Indo-Pacific cooperation.
He congratulated Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for successfully organising the summit and welcomed Timor-Leste as ASEAN’s newest member.
He highlighted India’s growing partnership with Asean and declared that the 21st century is a shared era of opportunity for both.
“The 21st century is our century. It is India and Asean’s century,” PM Modi said.
“I am confident that the goals of ‘Asean Community Vision 2045’ and ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ will create a brighter and more prosperous future for all humanity.”
Extending condolences on the demise of Thailand’s queen mother, Modi emphasized India and ASEAN’s shared geography, culture, and values.
Highlighting the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” he said it reflects joint efforts in digital inclusion, food security, and resilient supply chains.
Announcing 2026 as the “Year of ASEAN-India Maritime Cooperation,” he underscored growing collaboration in maritime security, blue economy, education, green energy, and cyber security.
