Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, with the two leaders reviewing bilateral cooperation and agreeing on the need to restore trade ties to pre-conflict levels.
In a post on X after the meeting, Modi said India and Ukraine had witnessed extensive engagement in recent times across different sectors and that the discussions focused on various aspects of bilateral cooperation.
“We both agree that trade ties need to be restored to what they were in the pre-war time,” the Prime Minister said.
Modi also reiterated India’s long-standing position on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, asserting that New Delhi would continue to stand on the side of peace.
“India will always be on the side of peace, placing the values of humanity over everything else,” he said.
The meeting comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts by several countries to seek an end to the Russia-Ukraine War and restore economic stability disrupted by the prolonged conflict.
India has maintained close engagement with both Kyiv and Moscow, while consistently advocating dialogue and diplomacy as the only path to peace.
