A 29-YEAR-OLD woman has been detained after authorities allegedly uncovered a modified Toyota Camry being used to store subsidised petrol at a petrol station in Padang Besar.
The woman was detained at about 8.30pm on Thursday by eight enforcement officers from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry’s (KPDN) Perlis office following a week-long intelligence operation.
KPDN Perlis director Rohaida Hassan said officers discovered an additional tank fitted to the vehicle during their inspection, which was suspected of having been used to store petrol.
“An inspection of the Toyota Camry used by the suspect found an additional tank suspected to have been filled with petrol,” she said in a statement on Friday.
The operation led to the seizure of 130 litres of petrol estimated to be worth RM258.70, along with the Toyota Camry valued at about RM20,000. The total value of the seized items was estimated at RM20,258.70.
The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961.
If convicted, the offender faces a fine of up to RM1 million, imprisonment for up to three years, or both. - August 21, 2026
