MOE Announces 2 Additional Days of School Holidays for The Upcoming Deepavali Celebration

Deepavali is taking place on 20 October this year, which falls on a Monday, and students in Malaysia can expect a long weekend ahead.

The Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) has announced additional holidays in conjunction with the Deepavali celebrations this year.

MOE announces extra school holidays for Deepavali

According to the Academic Calendar for the 2025/2026 Session, this additional holiday involves all schools nationwide except Sarawak, to give the school staff involved the opportunity to celebrate the Festival of Lights with their families and loved ones.

The following is the additional holiday schedule announced by the Ministry of Education, as shared in the Academic Calendar for the 2025/2026 Session.

  • Group A: Schools in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu will be on holiday on 19 October (Sunday) and 21 October (Tuesday).
  • Group B: Schools in Melaka, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Selangor, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, the Federal Territory of Labuan, and the Federal Territory of Putrajaya will be on holiday on 21 October (Tuesday) and 22 October (Wednesday)

Sarawak, on the other hand, will only have a day of holiday, which is on Deepavali itself on 20 October, Monday.

With this announcement, school students can expect to have 5 consecutive days off, allowing the families to spend more quality time. You can click here to refer to the schedule released by the MOE today (6 October).
