The Ministry of Education (MOE) is committed to ensuring that children of former followers of GISB Holding (GISBH), recently rescued through Op Global, receive a formal education in line with the national curriculum. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek announced that the ministry has initiated educational sessions for these children, beginning with psycho-social classes during the first two weeks. These initial classes are designed to assess the children’s psycho-social needs, preparing them to transition smoothly into regular school routines.

Now, all these children have started attending regular classes according to our curriculum, under the supervision of assigned teachers, Fadhlina explained to reporters after attending the 14th Convocation Ceremony of the Ministry of Education’s Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) yesterday. This event, which began on November 3 and spanned five days, celebrated 6,382 IPG graduates who completed their studies and training at 28 IPG campuses, including English Language Teaching Centres.

Earlier, on September 23, Fadhlina had stated that MOE would oversee the educational needs of over 300 children rescued through Op Global since October 1. These children, many of whom were previously deprived of formal education, are receiving specialized learning programs while residing in temporary shelters. Alhamdulillah, to date, these children are following the mainstream education syllabus with guidance from our dedicated teachers, who are positioned at various shelter locations to provide on-site support, Fadhlina shared.

Reports indicate that the Malaysian police, in a large-scale operation called Op Global, successfully rescued 402 individuals comprising 201 males and 201 females aged between one and seventeen from 20 charity homes in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan. These homes were allegedly involved in the exploitation of these individuals, which raised concerns for their welfare and led to the intervention.

In addition to addressing the immediate educational needs of these rescued children, MOE is focusing on filling educational positions throughout the country. More than 6,000 IPG teacher graduates received their placements on September 30, just before their convocation ceremony. These graduates have already started their roles as teachers, assigned to primary and secondary schools nationwide, Fadhlina confirmed.

When asked about the distribution of teachers across Malaysia, including in remote areas like Sabah and Sarawak, Fadhlina emphasized that teacher placements are being managed to meet needs across all regions. We ensure fair distribution of teachers, recognizing the demand for educators in every part of the country, she stated.

The 14th IPG Convocation Ceremony marks an important milestone for these new educators, who are now part of the nation’s effort to uphold high standards of education. The newly appointed teachers are expected to contribute significantly to the development of the education sector, particularly in addressing shortages and enhancing the quality of learning in Malaysia’s schools.

Through these efforts, the Ministry of Education aims to foster an inclusive educational environment that supports all children, especially those who have previously faced barriers to formal schooling. By providing accessible and tailored education for the rescued children, MOE is working to reintegrate them into mainstream education, helping them achieve a better future in a stable and supportive environment.
