THE introduction of the new subject - Alam dan Manusia: Pembelajaran Bersepadu (Nature and Humanity: Integrated Learning) at Year One in the 2027 School Curriculum aims to strengthen basic skills and character development of students at the early stages of schooling.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) said in a statement that the subject combines various disciplines including science, health education, music and visual arts.

"The new subject also combines Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and digital to provide a more comprehensive learning experience for students.

"This subject will replace the subjects of Science, Health Education, Visual Arts Education and Music in the existing curriculum," it said, today.

MOE announced that this teaching will be implemented through the team teaching method or 'co-teaching' with two teachers in one class.

It said that the effort will support a multi-disciplinary approach, where teachers complement each other in delivering lesson content and meeting the learning needs of students.

"At Level One (Years One, Two and Three), the main focus is on mastering literacy, reading, writing, and arithmetic (3M) as well as character building.

"Therefore, the number of subjects is minimised to enable students to master basic skills more effectively," it said.

Previously, the Minister of Education, Fadhlina Sidek, was reported to have said that the team teaching method or 'co-teaching' with two teachers in one class is among the new approaches to be implemented in the 2027 School Curriculum.

The 'co-teaching' method is implemented to ensure that the teaching and learning (T&L) process becomes more interesting and effective because it gives teachers space to be more creative and interactive in implementing T&L.

This approach is among the main innovations in the implementation of the new curriculum for the implementation of integrated learning, which is a combination of various disciplines taught in an integrated manner. – November 6, 2025
