THE Ministry of Education (MOE) has advised schools to postpone outdoor activities when temperatures exceed 35 degrees Celsius, while closely monitoring activities that may expose students to excessive heat to safeguard their health.
In a statement issued today, the ministry said all educational institutions under its purview must strengthen preparedness and implement appropriate measures in response to the hot weather, particularly as schools resume operations on Sunday and Monday.
It added that schools should ensure a sufficient supply of clean drinking water and encourage students to stay adequately hydrated to help regulate body temperature.
“Educational institutions must also ensure an adequate supply of clean drinking water and encourage students to consume sufficient amounts of water to help regulate body temperature,” according to the statement.
The ministry further advised boarding schools to provide drinking water to students if conditions become critical and no alternative sources are available, and to remain vigilant while working closely with nearby clinics and hospitals in the event of any heat-related health complications among students.
School managements have also been given discretion to allow students, teachers and support staff to wear modest sports attire during hot weather, depending on the needs and circumstances of each institution.
The ministry stressed that all educational institutions must remain attentive to current heat conditions in their respective areas and comply with established guidelines issued from time to time.
Based on the academic calendar, Group A schools covering Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu will have their mid-term break from March 20 to March 28, while Group B states, comprising Melaka, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Pulau Pinang, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, will observe their break from March 21 to March 29. - March 25, 2026
