KUALA LUMPUR: A staff member from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) has been fined and is facing disciplinary action after being caught smoking at an eatery in Rawang, Selangor, in a video that went viral on Facebook.

The incident gained attention after images were shared by the MUSC Motorsports Facebook page, showing the individual smoking while seated directly beneath a ‘No Smoking’ sign at the premises.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, MOH confirmed that an immediate investigation was carried out and found that the individual was a civil servant attached to the Gombak District Health Office.

The Ministry stressed that the smoking ban under the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 applies to everyone, including government employees.

A compound notice has since been issued, and internal disciplinary action will also be taken under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations.

MOH said it would not compromise with any staff who fail to follow the law, adding that strict and consistent enforcement is necessary to protect the public from exposure to cigarette smoke.
