IPOH, December 19 — Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid has been sworn in as the 15th Perak Speaker.

Mohammad Zahir was suggested by the Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohammad and was supported by Sungkai assemblyman A. Sivanesan, who is also the state health executive council member.

Meanwhile, Canning assemblyman Jenny Choy has been appointed as state Deputy Speaker.

Choy was suggested by Sungai Rapat assemblyman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin and was supported by Temenggor assemblyman Salbiah Mohamed.

In today’s meeting, all 58 out of 59 assemblymen took their oaths.

However, Kepayang assemblyman Nga Kor Ming, who is also Teluk Intan MP, was not present for the sitting today as he attended the Parliament sitting which runs concurrently.

Nga is expected to take his oath at the following state assembly sitting.

The state assembly resumes from tomorrow until December 29.
