Kota Kinabalu: An 18-year-old Bajau Laut student charged with illegal entry will go on trial from Jan 18 to 20, 2027.

Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain fixed the trial dates for Mohd Nico Ansboy (pic), who is currently a student at an alternative learning centre operated by an NGO.

The prosecution also served the relevant documents on the defence, with about four to five witnesses expected to be called during the hearing.

Mohd Nico pleaded not guilty on April 2 to being found in Sabah without any valid pass to enter or remain in Malaysia at the One Borneo Mall area at 3pm on March 15 this year.

The charge, framed under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, provides for a fine of up to RM10,000 or imprisonment of up to five years, or both, and liability to whipping of up to six strokes upon conviction.
