University is more often than not the last stage of education many of us receive before we join the workforce.
Throughout the years, many have voiced out and said that university courses need to be improved so that our graduands are more employable.
Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, the minister of Higher Education, has said that 44 courses from 9 public universities have been identified and their 4-year-long duration will be shortened to 3 years.
“This move will reduce the amount of loan or tuition fees that need to be borne by the students. It also allows graduands to join the workforce a year earlier.”
This move does not include private educational institutions and it is up to them if they want to follow suit, reported Sinar Harian.
Other than that, hybrid and flexible learning will be introduced as well. How it works is that university students will only be on campus in their first and last year.
The minister said that for the years in the middle, the students will be given a choice and flexibility to attend classes at home and not physical classes.
“Through this initiative, university students can arrange their activities with more flexibility.”
Other than lowering the tuition fees, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin believes that this will enable university students the flexibility to work or do the things that they are unable to do when they are on campus.
