Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad's two sons say that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has asked them to assist in the probe of Malaysia's former Prime Minister.

Tan Sri Mokhzani and Encik Mirzan stated that their former prime minister's father was the real target and primary suspect in the MACC inquiry.

Tan Sri Mokhzani confirmed the situation in an interview with the foreign media on March 23, as per a report by Berita Harian.

"We are witnesses to whatever they investigate," said Mokhzani.

According to Tan Sri Mokhzani, the MACC did not give him or Mr. Mirzan any information about the Tun Mahathir probe.

He stated that they had researched the reason for the investigation, but MACC could not provide any information about it.

"Can you imagine being asked to provide information that will be used to prosecute your parents?" said Tan Sri Mokhzani.

On February 8, it was reported that the two brothers were also ordered by MACC to declare all moveable and immovable assets in their hands, whether in or out of the country.

In a joint statement, the two brothers stated that MACC had requested a list of assets from 1981, Tun Mahathir's first year as Prime Minister.

The MACC list of assets is part of a probe into offshore business documents uncovered by a journalism consortium, but it does not mention Tun Mahathir as the main target.

The report also stated that the two brothers willingly assisted with the inquiry, despite the fact that it was tough and time-consuming.

Tan Sri Mokhzani stated that they also worked with company secretaries and accountants to file their asset declarations.

"This is an almost impossible task—to remember things from decades ago," he added, noting that he was still a student in Britain in 1981.

Tan Sri Mokhzani stated that he and Mr. Mirzan couldn't recall the circumstances at the time because everything was captured physically rather than digitally.

Following that, Dr. Mahathir was allegedly upset with the government once the MACC began probing his son, expressing anger with the legal system and criticizing what he saw as a selective inquiry.
